Boston Bruins trade Milan Lucic and Dougie Hamilton.
The season has barely been over since June 15th when the Chicago Blackhawks stopped the Tampa Bay Lightning in a Game 6 WIN at home in Chicago but all the while the rest of the NHL has been planning their own next moves to get their respective teams to a Stanley Cup as well. Just over 2 Weeks later & we have the Kings getting a powerful Milan Lucic to an already strong lineup. Let’s not forget Phil Kessel got dumped by the Leafs to his delight. Kessel is now a Pittsburgh Penguin which is a shot in the arm to the fan base. Young talent T.J. Oshie is going to the Washington Capitals who made strides in their own quest for the Cup this past season. Looks like these 3 teams are gearing up for another incredible year of NHL hockey.

When you think of dominant defensive hockey teams the Pittsburgh Penguins probably are not one of the first teams that come to mind. Likewise, when you think of the Pittsburgh Penguins, dominant defensive hockey probably isn’t the first thing that you think of.
Instead, it’s probably offense, offense, offense. And maybe more offense.
Tonight the NHL hockey season begins! The L.A. Kings get to defend their title starting against the San Jose Sharks at home tonight. It should be a great night of hockey between the 4 scheduled games. Of course most of America will be doing other things tonight since there are no baseball playoffs or NFL games tonight but here in L.A., I’m pretty certain the Staples Center will be packed in and around. Pretty cool considering most of my years of living here it’s all about the Lakers but lately things have been changing. I think it’s a good thing too. In fact it’s great for Hockey to have what typically just doesn’t seem to go together,L.A., sunshine, beaches and hockey? Personally it would be even greater if the Kings would win again. Last time it has happened was 1997/1998 Detroit Red Wings, who have won twice since then. This would give L.A. 3 in 4 years but more importantly it would ramp up the competition even more around the league. Not to mention you retain, grow and cement a REAL hockey presence in L.A. and So.Cal in general. I myself am not some big time King fan, I grew up as a Penguin fan in Pittsburgh where I essentially learned about Hockey. When the Penguins won in 1991/1992 it really stamped Hockey in Pittsburgh as a leading sport. Good thing it did too because quite honestly that city needed it when the Pirates when into a 21 Year slump!!
Beside the Kings, who is your favorite? Who is your prediction to win it all or just make it to the playoffs? I don’t know the trades that occurred, I don’t know much about most of the players out there but I appreciate the sport. So let it be an incredible or at the least very fun Hockey night!!
This is going to be quite a match up to say the least. Plenty of history between these teams years ago and now recently both clubs have won Stanley Cups. The game is going to be played outdoors at Soldier Field in Chicago where the Bears play. Let’s see how cold and snowy it could get.
It has been almost an entire week later and the NHL still hasn’t responded to the cowardly attack to Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik. Bruins Shawn Thornton has been suspended indefinitely which is justified but will there be more to come? In my opinion I think there should be. I don’t remember seeing a player go out of his way to attack another guy quite like he did.
It’s a good time right now to be a Penguin fan in Pittsburgh where the Steelers typically take up the spotlight this time of year. On top of that their hated rival the Flyers are not looking so crisp or remotely intimidating right now. On Thursday night the Penguins added another loss to the Flyers already bad start. Read more…..
